When it comes to cosmetic procedures, we all want quick results. “How soon with I look great?” Particularly around the holidays, instant gratification is big. And if there is any way to avoid surgery, most of us are interested. The recurrent theme of most cosmetic advertisements is “great results without surgery”. So why do I still recommend a surgical facelift for many of my patients? The simple answer – I want them to be as happy next year as they are right after the procedure. It makes us all feel good.
Every holiday I am reminded that surgery is still my favorite procedure. I live in Portland, so many of my patients head south to escape the winter rains. However, in December they all come back for their annual photos – and just to say hi. Today I saw a 65 year old retired nurse who had a facelift and eyelid surgery one year ago – she was beaming and thrilled with her results. She was also gracious enough to let me share her before and after photos. I think she looks great – and has a result I could not duplicate with any non-invasive procedure.
Today you have a lot of options for improving your appearance – and we offer many of them at our clinic. You can definitely benefit from non-invasive of procedures, but for me the before and after results are never as dramatic as surgery. So I continue to be a big fan of the surgical facelift, because happy patients make for happy holidays.
